T.I.’s latest was one of six new releases to enter the chart in the top 10 and one of 33 total newcomers to impact next week’s chart. Jack’s Mannequin’s Glass Passenger will debut at #8 with 49,000 sold, while “American Idol” alumni Kellie Pickler’s self-titled latest enters at #9, selling 43,000.

T.I. has another release debuting on next week’s chart, but this one opens at #125 with just 5,000 sold. Called A King of Oneself, the six-song EP was sold exclusively to Best Buy customers who bought a copy of Paper Trail.

Ben Folds’ Way to Normal just misses the top 10, coming in at #11 next week with 40,000 scans, while Anberlin’s New Surrender follows at #13 with week-one sales of 36,000. Nightmare Revisited, a compilation featuring the likes of Marilyn Manson, Flyleaf, Korn, Rise Against and others covering the tunes from Disney’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” enters the chart at #31, having sold 19,000 copies, while Murs’ Murs for President opens at #43 with 12,000 sold.

Meanwhile “Hills” co-star Audrina Patridge said, “I’m a huge Lil Wayne fan. Also, I was in love with Rihanna’s performance. It was so good. She’s perfect!”

Gnarls Barkley’s Cee-Lo gave it up for his hip-hop brethren. “I guess [my favorite performance] was watching Kanye perform a new song I’ve never heard before. It was great,” he said. “T.I., my man, watching him do his thing and get back on top. My man Lil Wayne doing his thing. It was all wonderful.”

Did drummer Gil Sharone leave Dillinger Escape Plan? That’s the rumor, but confirmation has yet to come from either the band or Sharone himself. On Dillinger’s MySpace page, in a blog post titled “It’s true,” the band simply wrote, ” … everybody loves a rumor.” And that rumor suggests Sharone has rejoined his old band, Stolen Babies, and that DEP have been talking to Raanen Bozzio — son of drummer Terry Bozzio — about taking over behind the kit. Only time will tell if there is any truth to all of this, but we’ll keep you posted. …

Are We Done Yet? A child this age simply can’t sit still at the table for more than 10 to 15 minutes at a time. He’ll be eager to get on to playtime or other distractions whether or not the meal is finished.

According to the CPSC, about 50 infants and toddlers drown every year in buckets containing liquid used for mopping floors and other household chores. Most of the victims are between 8 and 14 months old.


Eliminate standing water or other liquids in 5-gallon buckets and other containers. Children left unattended even for just a minute or two can drown in as little as 2 inches of liquid. This seemingly unlikely scenario happens because young children are top-heavy. If they lose their balance (as they so often do) while peering into a toilet or bucket, they typically fall in head first and cannot get out.

One very important sign that your baby is learning to talk is that he or she understands more and more of what you say. Words such as Mommy, Daddy, baby, shoe, ball, juice and cookie are probably understood now, or will be soon. A baby may now also understand names of family members or pets.

About AD Kids: Ease Into Solids
Eating solid food is quite different from taking milk from a nipple, and your baby will need time to get used to the change. Some mothers offer the baby a little milk in a baby spoon for a few days, then gradually add a little cereal. If your baby likes the mixture, add more cereal until its consistency is thicker. If the baby doesn’t like it, it’s best to try another cereal or a fruit.

At times a reluctant baby may be more interested in solid food if it’s offered before he has nursed. But a screaming, hungry baby may not have any patience with solid food until hunger has been somewhat satisfied. In that case, you might feed half the milk and then give the solid food, saving the rest of the milk for ‘dessert.’

Sometimes a baby seems to dislike a certain food, but appearances are deceiving. The baby may just be getting used to a spoon, and learning a new tongue motion and a new way of swallowing. So try the food another time, perhaps in a different consistency, to be sure of your baby’s reactions.

Is Temperament Genetic?
Despite a growing body of research, there is no definitive answer to why children are endowed with certain temperamental traits. But studies suggest that it is at least partially genetic. This does not mean that two shy parents are destined to have shy children, or if you have trouble finishing tasks your child will too. In fact, researchers have no definite way of predicting a child’s temperament based on that of their parents (siblings, even identical twins, can have very different temperaments).

At What Age Can I Determine My Child’s Temperament?
There is some debate about how early a parent can detect a child’s temperament. Carey and his colleagues designed five sets of questionnaires for parents, including one for infants between the ages of one and four months old. They found that the nine traits identified by Thomas and Chess were discernable in this very early period. But they have yet to determine how stable these traits remain over a child’s lifetime.
Kathy Oliver M.S., Family and Consumer Sciences Agent at Ohio State University Extension, says that some traits, including rhythmicity, distractibility, and activity level are evident in the first few weeks.
“I nursed both my babies,” says Oliver. “And there was a big difference in how distractible they were. When my son was at the breast that is where he was. With my daughter, any little movement or noise would cause her to wriggle and look around. She is still that way and she is thirteen now.”
Does this mean that if your infant seems highly distractible he will inevitably face problems in school? Or if you cannot set your watch by your newborn’s bowel movements you are destined to raise a “difficult” child? Absolutely not.
Although temperament is inborn and at least partially genetic, it is not static. How well a parent understands and accepts their child’s temperament can have a dramatic impact on how each trait will manifest itself.

Researchers tell us when a baby starts to walk, an instinct to swim may appear briefly. When babies are supported under the chest in water they kick their legs alternately. This is the second time the swimming instinct shows itself - newborns have a similar reflex, but it disappears after the age of three months.
